Clean rosin from fingerboard and body

Simply avoid paint damage

Rosin dust settles quickly, especially on soft lacquers. The lacquer then feels rough and dull. The longer the rosin dust is deposited on the varnish, the higher the risk of major damage to the varnish, which can then only be repaired at great expense by a luthier.

Finding the right cloth for string instruments

Cleaning cloths that do not leave any fibres or material residues that can stick to splinters are particularly suitable. Therefore, fluffy cloths are not recommended! It is equally important that parts of the body with and without rosin dust layer get separate cloths.

It is recommended that rosin residues in the cloths are washed out regularly, either in the washing machine or by hand.

Cleaning the fingerboard and body: this is how it's done

After playing and cleaning the strings of the stringed instrument, first take a cloth and wipe the fingerboard. Be careful not to spread the rosin dust all over the fingerboard .The fingerboardis particularly sensitive becauseit is lacquer-free. When cleaning the body, make sure that the parts free of rosin dust are only cleaned with a cloth that has no rosin residue. This protects the sensitive lacquer layer. The contamination on the lacquer is removed particularly well by rubbing the dirty areas with gentle pressure until the lacquer feels smooth and shines again.

Remove rosin

If you want to produce a beautiful sound, you should clean the strings of your instrument regularly. A good cloth is usually sufficient for this.
